Chief of Police George N. Turner

It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Chief of Police for the Atlanta Police Department.

City of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has expressed, we all have a responsibility to perform at our best, while working together to maintain the magnitude of excellence that our city represents.  Serving as chief does not mean that I am only temporarily serving as your commander-in-chief.  I have proudly served for more than 28 years and will remain steadfast in continuing to serve with profound professionalism, dedication and integrity.  Throughout my years with the Atlanta Police Department, I am grateful for the knowledge and wisdom that I have gained through professional experiences and from numerous commanders and peers.

I recognize the importance of having strong and ethical leadership to enforce accountability and to oversee the operations of a law enforcement agency.  Coming up through the ranks, I recognize the commitment and sacrifice of our police officers and the level of dedication from our civilian employees.  Additionally, I recognize that the roles played by all of our police employees are imperative in order to make affective and positive contributions to policing and creating a safer community.

I am looking forward to joining forces in the war against crime with government officials, other law enforcement agencies, the residential and business community, and the men and women of the Atlanta Police Department.  I must extend a heartfelt thank you to all of your hard work and support.  As your Chief of Police, I pledge to make a stance in improving our department work environment, renewing our public safety efforts, and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Atlanta.
