Major Hobbs has served the citizens of Atlanta in various assignments to include patrol, investigative, training, recruitment, policy writing, and property during his tenure with the Atlanta Police Department.  In July 2010, he was appointed to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Night Commander. In February 2012, He was appointed as the Assistant Zone Commander for Zone 6 and worked there until his promotion to Major.

After graduating from the Police Academy, he was first assigned to the Zone 5 Underground Atlanta mini-precinct, walking a foot beat in the area in and around the retail/entertainment complex.  He soon transferred to Zone 5 mobile where he patrolled the streets until his promotion to Sergeant in June of 1997.

He was initially assigned to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as a first line supervisor before being transferred to the Office of Professional Standards.  During his tenure at the Office of Professional Standards, he conducted investigations before being assigned as the commander of the Advocacy Unit.  He also wrote the lesson plan on how to conduct an Internal Investigation.

In October of 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the Training Academy as the Administrative Supervisor.  One of his most significant accomplishments at the Training Academy was the development and implementation of testing procedures for officers seeking the rank of Senior Police Officer (SPO) or Investigator.

He was then assigned to be the Commander of the Recruitment Unit in September of 2003.  During his tenure in the Recruitment Unit he oversaw the revision for the Decision Rues for Hiring and implemented a pre-employment physical training test.

In February 2006, he was transferred to the Planning Unit to assist in updating the Standard Operating Procedures, and write and review new directives in advance of the CALEA (The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement) on-site inspection for re-accreditation.

In Spring of 2008, he was transferred to the Property Control Unit.  He was given several major tasks that had to be completed prior to the move to a new, but much smaller, facility. He had to complete an entire inventory of every item of property and evidence contained within the Property Control Unit.  He had to reduce the amount of aged property / evidence so the unit would fit into the new facility.  He had to implement a new property / evidence software tracking system.  He also implemented an online auction site in order to dispose of court-ordered items of evidence and property.  All of these tasks were accomplished successfully during which time the Property Control Unit never closed or had any delay in service to the officers of the Atlanta Police Department, the various courts, or citizens.

In July 2010, he was appointed to the rank of Major and assigned as the Night Commander where he serves as Command Staff presence and spokesman for the Atlanta Police Department during the late evening and early morning hours.
