  1. The Information Services Section consists of the following units:
    Central Records Unit is the central repository of incident, traffic accident and related reports; transmits information on wanted persons, stolen items and crimes to the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC); and reviews and classifies incident reports according to the FBI Uniform Crime Report (UCR) standards.
    1. The Audit and Compliance Squad responsibilities include audit and tracking of Department incident reports and other related reports.
  2. The Identification Unit (ID) provides crime scene processing including fingerprints and photographs. The ID Unit codes and matches fingerprint evidence as well as fingerprinting applicants for employment and various other permits. Maintains the criminal histories on persons arrested by the Department.

For Record Restriction Requests (arrests prior to July 1, 2013):

  • 1 Date of Arrest Only per Request with a Non-Refundable $25 fee per request. Forms of payment accepted: money order or cashier’s check made payable to the “City of Atlanta”. 
    The applicant must fill out “Section 1” of the restriction application.
  • Official documentation containing disposition information must be submitted with the application. This can be obtained from the court or solicitor’s office. Requests will not be accepted without this documentation.
  • Applicants are responsible for making sure that arrests were made by the City of Atlanta Police Department before turning in requests. To be certain of the arresting agency, you may obtain a personal background check for a $10 fee payable by money order or cashier’s check only. 
  • Applicants will be notified by mail of the approval or denial of their requests.
  • If approved, an additional fee of $25 payable to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation must be forwarded with the “approved paperwork” to the GBI for the final step in the Expungement process.
  • All fees are Non-Refundable.

For Fingerprinting services:

  • The Atlanta Police Department provides fingerprint services 9:00am-4:00pm Tuesday– Thursday excluding holidays.
  • Applicants must bring their own fingerprint cards and a legal form of identification. (Valid drivers’ license or state identification card, Valid passport, Valid military identification, Valid immigration card (green card) or Birth certificate)
  • There is a non-refundable fee is $20 per person for up to 2 cards. Forms of payment accepted: money order or cashier’s check made payable to the “City of Atlanta”. 
  • Electronic fingerprint submissions for employment or licensing with the state of Georgia for non-criminal justice purposes must go to a GAPS location. Go to http://www.ga.cogentid.com for more information.
  • We provide immigration fingerprint services for Canadian immigration only, all others must go to: USCIS offices, Application Support Centers (ASCs), and U.S. consular offices and military installations abroad. Go to http://www.uscis.gov for more information.
  • All fees are Non-Refundable.

For Background Checks:

  • The Atlanta Police Department provides criminal history background checks 9:00am-4:00pm Monday – Friday excluding holidays. 
  • There is a Non-Refundable $10 fee per request. Forms of payment accepted: money order or cashier’s check made payable to the “City of Atlanta”.
  • Requestors must present a legal form of identification. (Valid drivers’ license or state identification card, Valid passport, Valid military identification, Valid immigration card (green card) or Birth certificate).
  • A criminal history background check may be made on another with the person’s notarized consent and a copy of the individuals ID. A Georgia record, which includes Georgia arrests and convictions reported to the Georgia Crime Information Center, may be obtained. The signed consent form from the individual whose record is being sought must be provided with person’s full name, race, sex, and date of birth at the time of the request.
