Major Barbara Cavender is no stranger to Zone 3, having been a student at Martin Luther King Middle School and a graduate of F. D. Roosevelt High School. She joined the police department in December 1986. She has served as an officer in Zone 2, Zone 4, Red Dog and the Mounted Patrol Unit. She was promoted to Sergeant in 1996 and served in the Red Dog Unit as a field supervisor, administrative sergeant and K-9 supervisor. She went on to supervise in the Criminal Investigations Division in various units such as the Gang Unit, Narcotics Unit and the Robbery Unit. In December 2002, she was promoted to Lieutenant and served as a unit commander in Zone 1, Red Dog, License & Permits and as the administrative lieutenant for the Special Enforcement Section. She has received many commendations and was selected as the Supervisor of the Year in 2008. In 2010, she was appointed to Captain and held the position of Assistant Zone Commander of Zone 4. On July 21, 2011, Captain Barbara Cavender was promoted to Major and Commander of Zone 3. Major Cavender is a proud parent of a 4 year old boy, Camren.
