Incident Summary
On May 18, 2022, APD officers were called to 3101 Piedmont Road regarding a restaurant guest who was armed and acting strange. The caller advised the guest was yelling at employees and wanting to drink alcohol. It was later determined the male was 22-year-old Nygil Cullins, reportedly a former employee of the business.
In March 2023, the City of Atlanta met with Mr. Cullins’ family, their attorneys and leadership from the local NAACP and allowed them to view the footage from this case. The decision was made to publicly release the footage after consulting with the GBI and the Fulton County DA’s Office.
It is important to show all the facts and evidence because some individuals have missed or omitted major portions as they shared information regarding this event. We understand that this footage is difficult to watch and we are deeply saddened at the loss of life.

The below video shows footage from the involved officers’ body cameras as well as footage from the restaurant surveillance cameras. This video also includes 911 audio. Previously Released Information
On 5-18-2022, at around 7:00 PM, officers were dispatched to 3101 Piedmont Road regarding an unruly patron who was armed with a handgun. Officers encountered the suspect inside the business and attempted to escort him out. The suspect was not cooperative and the encounter escalated to a physical altercation. An officer deployed his taser. However, the taser was not effective. The suspect began heading toward the door of the business when he was tackled by a security guard. At that point, the suspect produced his firearm and fired one round, striking the security guard. At least one of our officers then discharged their weapon, fatally striking the suspect. The security guard was taken the the hospital and is in stable condition. It appears no one else was physically injured during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene and will takeover the investigation into the officer involved shooting. At this time, the investigation continues.
