Major Jeff Cantin was a firefighter/paramedic from 1994 to 2000 before joining the Atlanta Police Department in recruit class 171 on February 2000. After the police academy, he worked in Zone 3, working up to detective before heading to Zone 1 as rank of a Sergeant in May 2007. In June 2010, he was promoted to lieutenant and spent time working in Zone 2 Buckhead and Zone 5 Downtown corridor, getting experience working at many significant events and conventions. He also commanded the Narcotics unit, Vice Squad, and Street Crimes unit before being promoted to Captain in December 2018. He then worked in Zone 4 Southwest Atlanta and Contingency Operation, which later became Strategic Response Section after the 2020 protest. He was then promoted to Major in December 2021 and continued in the Strategic Response section working on large-scale events like the NCAA Final 4. December 2022, he is now commander of the COPS section covering all the community engagement and outreach programs.
