Deputy Chief Jessica Bruce is a native of Madison, Georgia.  She joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2004 and has 18 years of service with the department.

Bruce began her police career as a patrol officer in Zone 5 in downtown Atlanta.  In 2009, she was assigned to the Gang Unit and shortly after, promoted to the rank of Investigator and served Zone 1. 

In 2010, she was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to Zone 6.  In 2012, Bruce was transferred to the Special Enforcement Section, where she served in the VICE unit and then the Violent Street Crime Unit.

In 2015, she was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Zone 3.  There she served as the morning watch and the crime suppression team commander.  In 2018, Bruce was sent to the Training Academy to assist and oversee the training leading up to the Super Bowl.

In 2019, Bruce was appointed to the rank of Captain.  As Captain, she served as Night Commander, Contingency Operations and Strategic Response Section, handling civil unrest, protests, and aiding APD’s response to the COVID -19 pandemic.

Bruce was appointed to the rank of Major in August 2021, and remained in Strategic Response Section until December, when she was assigned to the Violent Crime Interdiction Section. She is the current commander over the Titan’s Unit and Narcotics Unit. 

Bruce holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia and is a graduate of the Atlanta Police Leadership Institute.
