His journey began with a strong educational foundation, earning a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. Committed to lifelong learning, Major Clay further honed his expertise through prestigious programs such as the Atlanta Police Leadership Institute and Northwestren University School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC), where he was recognized with the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership Award for embodying the qualities of ethical leadership needed in today's law enforcement community.
With a remarkable 20-year career within the Atlanta Police Department, Major Clay has made an indelible impact on the community. Starting as an officer at the renowned Zone 4 precinct, he quickly distinguished himself, becoming a certified Field Training Officer. His unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership skills led to promotions, including serving as a respected Sergeant at Zone 2 precinct and later as the distinguished Unit Commander at Zone 6 precinct Morning Watch.
Major Clay's dedication to community engagement came to the forefront when he assumed the role of Unit Commander for the Community Liaison Unit within the Department's Community Service Division. In this capacity, he fostered strong partnerships with multiple neighborhood planning units, community organizations, advocacy groups, and residents. In 2022, he was entrusted with the responsibilities of Zone 4, affectionately known as the S.W.A.T.S. (Southwest Atlanta Too Strong), an area with 67 unique neighborhoods and rich historical landmarks.
