Major Andrea Webster joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2003. After graduating from the Atlanta Police Academy, she was assigned to Northeast Atlanta in Zone 2 as a patrol officer. 

In 2008, she was appointed to the rank of Investigator.  Her first assignment as an investigator was in the newly reformed Narcotics Unit.  While there, she investigated narcotics activity throughout metro Atlanta, served high-risk search and arrest warrants, and often worked alongside state and federal partners.  She then joined the Special Victims Unit, where she found fulfillment investigating acts of domestic violence, child exploitation, and sexual assault. 

In 2013, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  While in that rank, she served in various assignments which included Zone 2 patrol and investigations, the Atlanta Police Training Academy, and the Criminal Investigations Division Administrative Office. 

In 2016, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.  As a Lieutenant, she was the Zone 5 Evening Watch Commander, the Special Victims Unit Commander, and the Homicide Unit Commander.  In her tenure as the Homicide Unit Commander, she supervised the investigation of all murders, death investigations, missing adults, and other high-profile crimes reported to the Atlanta Police Department. 

In January 2020, she was appointed to the rank of Captain and assigned to the Strategy and Special Projects Division.  While there, she was responsible for ten specialized units with technological and strategic components. She guided the department’s strategic crime-fighting initiatives and the implementation of new technologies, policies, and the advancement of multiple projects.  As part of this assignment, she collaborated with internal and external partners to revise APD’s vehicle pursuit, use of force, and pandemic response policies. 

In September 2020, she was appointed to the rank of Major, where she was assigned to the Field Operations Division as the Investigations Commander.  In that assignment, she provided oversight for investigative units of all six zones and guided investigative responses on priority investigations.  She also steered the development of case management and analytics for the new police report management system.  

In 2021, she was assigned as the Chief of Staff, where she managed the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Chief of Police.  She also spearheaded several initiatives to include the centralization and reorganization of the department’s investigative units.  In 2022, she was transferred to Zone 6, where she currently oversees patrol operations. 

Major Webster is a P.O.S.T. certified instructor.  She has completed the Atlanta Police Leadership Institute Tiers 3 and 4.  She also is a graduate of the IACP Women’s Leadership Institute, the Atlanta Police Leadership Mentoring Program, and the Senior Management Institute for Police.  Major Webster is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE), the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).  Major Webster holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Homeland Security from Herzing University and a Master of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University.
