Benjamin Vayens joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2006. After graduating from the Atlanta Police Academy, he was assigned to Zone Three (Southeast Atlanta). At the rank of Officer, Benjamin Vayens worked in various assignments including the Crime Suppression Unit, the Field Investigations Unit, and the Atlanta Proactive Enforcement and Interdiction (A.P.E.X.) Unit.

In 2012, Benjamin Vayens was appointed to the rank of Detective and assigned to the Zone Three Criminal Investigations Unit. He also worked as a Detective in the Regional Auto Theft Task Force and the Fugitive Unit.

In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to Zone One (Northwest Atlanta). He supervised in numerous assignments including Zone One Field Investigations Team, the Homeland Security Unit, and Gang Unit.

In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to Zone Three (Southeast Atlanta) as a Watch Commander. He also was transferred to the Fugitive Unit as the Unit Commander.  In 2021, he was appointed to the rank of Captain and assigned to the Field Operations Division as a Night Commander. He was transferred to Zone Two (North Atlanta) and assigned as the Assistant Zone Commander.

In 2024, he was appointed to the rank of Major and assigned as Zone Two Commander. Benjamin Vayens helped the Zone Two team win the Crime Reduction Award in 2022 with a 14 percent reduction in overall crime. In 2023, Zone Two finished down in crime for the third year in a row finishing down 3 percent in crime.

Major Vayens is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy Session #283. He is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command Session #463. He is a graduate of the Atlanta Police Leadership Institute Tier Four. Major Vayens holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
